Celebrates Nursing Week 2008
Southampton, NY— In observance of National Nursing Week, Southampton Hospital hosted a special luncheon to honor its entire nursing team which was nothing short of a success.
Speaking to the assembled group, Patricia Darcey, RN, Hospital’s Vice President of Nursing Administration, said, “For those of us in the profession of nursing, Nurses’ Day is a very special day, a day for us to remember and honor nurses of both the past and present. Each day, our nurses make a difference in the lives of Hospital patients through their experience and compassion. At Southampton Hospital we are honored to single out members of our Hospital with special awards for the excellence of their work.”
Four awards were given to members of the nursing staff. The Caring Hearts and Healing Hands Award to recognize a Registered Nurse was awarded to Patricia Gill, RN; the Licensed Practical Nurse Patient Care Award went to Donna Pontiere; the Preceptor Award went to Mary Drake and the Nursing Assistant Patient Care Award was given to Patricia Cole.
A special award was added to the roster this year entitled, the Spirit of Caring Award which went to Jeffrey Marshall, a Junior PC Technician from the Informational Systems Department for his dedication and support.
Also at the luncheon, Danuta Bennett, RN, was introduced as Southampton Hospital’s nominee for the Nassau/Suffolk Hospital Council’s Nurse of Excellence Award. Each year, participating hospitals are asked to recommend a registered nurse who has made an outstanding contribution to the nursing profession, through demonstrated leadership, by providing a role model to inspire other nurses to improve the quality of their performance, and by assisting other nurses in their professional development.
In addition, recognition banners and signs were placed throughout the Hospital and each member of the nursing staff received a special gift designed especially for the occasion.
