Southampton Hospital offers local High School Students ‘Life Skills’ Internship

 June 2009

Southampton, NY – Four students from Southampton High School recently participated in a 6- week internship program at Southampton Hospital where students are able to get exposure to an actual employment setting.  The program is facilitated through Career and Employment Options (CEO), an organization that works with special education students from local high schools in an effort to help them gain ‘life skills’ in a professional work environment. Students performed clerical duties, worked in housekeeping and food service and other departments of Southampton Hospital. The students are supervised by the Career and Employment staff and work an average of two to two-and-a half hours per day, Monday through Friday.  According to Southampton Hospital CMO and COO Fredric Weinbaum, “This program has been a wonderful experience for all of us here at Southampton Hospital.  We already have a new group scheduled for the Fall and look forward to working with CEO in helping children gain real-life work experience.”
