When you consider its very modest beginning in 1909, Southampton Hospital 100 years later is a remarkable testament to its founders and early supporters who recognized the critical need for hospital-based healthcare in our community. Southampton Hospital’s Centennial Celebration will pay tribute to the physicians and local residents who led the drive for an emergency hospital, the summer “cottagers” who provided early financial support, the nurses, and many more throughout the 20th century who built a community resource that continues to grow and meet the demands of healthcare today. One Hundred Years of Healing: Southampton Hospital, 1909-2009, researched and written by noted local author Mary Cummings, chronicles a rich institutional history. Coming soon to local bookstores, please call (631) 726-8700 for more information.
Among events planned for the celebration are two exhibits—one at the Hospital and the other at the Southampton Historical Museum—showcasing historical photographs, documents and objects that will inform as well as amuse.
